Triple Whale vs Northbeam (2026): Pricing, Attribution and Which to Choose

Triple Whale and Northbeam are the two names that come up first when a DTC brand outgrows the attribution numbers inside Meta and Google. They overlap on the core job, multi-touch attribution for e-commerce, and diverge almost everywhere else: how they price, how they assign credit, how fast the data refreshes, and who they expect to be sitting in front of the dashboard. This comparison uses each vendor's own pricing page and documentation as of September and October 2026, plus the independent 2026 reviews, and it ends with a rule of thumb that fits most brands. We build a third tool, Arktis, and say so in the last section rather than pretending otherwise.

The short version

Triple Whale is the broader product and the cheaper entry: a free plan, paid tiers that its Shopify App Store listing showed from $219 a month on 1 October 2026, data refreshed every 15 minutes, an AI operator called Moby, and a full BI layer, all built Shopify-first. Northbeam is the deeper measurement product and the more expensive one: from $1,500 a month on Starter and from $3,500 on Professional, a fractional-credit attribution methodology that finance teams find easier to defend, and media mix modeling and incrementality testing as add-ons for brands spending six figures a month. If you are a Shopify brand spending under about $250,000 a month on ads with Meta and Google as your main channels, Triple Whale is the default. If you spend more than that across five or more channels, run a non-Shopify stack, or need to justify budget shifts with modeled data, Northbeam earns its price.

Pricing: revenue-based versus spend-based

The two companies price on different inputs, which matters more than the headline numbers. Triple Whale prices on your annual gross merchandise value and the package you pick. Triple Whale's own pricing page showed no paid prices on 1 October 2026, only a button to book a walkthrough. Its Shopify App Store listing showed Foundation at $219 a month and Automate at $749 a month, without naming a revenue tier. In late August 2026 the pricing page displayed $549 and $1,349 a month at the $1 million to $2.5 million GMV tier; those figures are no longer shown. Paid plans are 12-month subscriptions, with annual billing taking two months off. Retention (segment syncing) and Conversion (site analytics with custom events) are add-ons below Automate, listed at $179 and $59 a month when the pricing page still showed prices and now priced through sales. Lower GMV tiers cost less and higher ones cost more, so the bill tracks your sales.

Northbeam prices on ad spend and data volume. Its pricing page lists Starter from $1,500 a month for brands spending under $1.5 million a year on ads, Professional from $3,500 a month for up to $500,000 a month in spend, a Growth tier bundled through an agency partner for brands under $200,000 a month, and Enterprise on quote above $500,000 a month. The FAQ on the same page says the monthly price is informed by the volume of data in your business measured in pageviews, so the list price is an initial estimate. Northbeam has no free plan.

Contract terms differ less than the billing options suggest. Triple Whale's paid plans are 12-month subscriptions, billed monthly or annually. Northbeam's Starter is month-to-month, usage-based pricing for early-stage Shopify brands, while Professional and Enterprise are annual terms with annual or semi-annual billing, which at Professional's list price means committing around $42,000 a year up front. For a full breakdown of each vendor's tiers, see our Triple Whale pricing section and the Northbeam pricing guide.

Attribution models and how credit is assigned

Both tools offer a menu of models, and both go beyond the simple ones. Triple Whale lists first click, last click, linear across all channels or paid only, its own Triple Attribution model, Total Impact, and Clicks and Deterministic Views, seven in total. Northbeam lists first touch, last touch, last non-direct touch, linear, clicks only, clicks plus modeled views, and clicks plus deterministic views, the last of which it introduced in October 2025 to extend verified impression tracking across Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and Pinterest.

The philosophical difference is in how the modeled numbers behave. Triple Whale's Total Impact is designed to sit closer to what the ad platforms themselves report, which shortens the learning curve for media buyers but makes the methodology harder to reproduce when someone asks why a channel got the credit it got. Northbeam assigns fractional credit per touchpoint so that the credits across channels never add up to more than total sales, a research-heavy approach that suits complex media mixes and holds up better in a finance review. Independent reviewers consistently describe Northbeam as the tool to choose when you need to compare attribution models side by side and defend the result, and Triple Whale as the tool that gives operators a number they can act on today. For background on what these models actually do, our guide to marketing attribution models walks through each one.

Tracking and setup

Triple Whale tracks with the Triple Pixel, a proprietary first-party pixel that installs as a Shopify Plus certified app in under a day, with automated installation now available for headless and custom storefronts on enterprise plans. Northbeam also runs a first-party pixel, but its documentation asks you to add a DNS record so the pixel is served from a subdomain of your own domain, and your content security policy has to allow it. That is a small step for a team with a developer and a real one for a founder doing it alone. Northbeam's own implementation guide and the 2026 reviews put full setup at two to four weeks, followed by a two to four week model warm-up before the numbers are decision-grade. Triple Whale's comparison claims, fairly, that most brands are live in a day.

Data freshness

Triple Whale refreshes data every 15 minutes or less on every plan including Free, and reports load in a few seconds. Northbeam's Starter plan refreshes a few times a day, Triple Whale's comparison says every four hours and Improvado's review says daily, with more frequent refresh listed as a Professional feature and optional hourly conversion data on Enterprise. For a media buyer adjusting budgets during a Black Friday morning, that gap is the difference between reacting to the last hour and reacting to yesterday. For a team making weekly budget decisions from modeled data, it does not matter much.

Measurement beyond attribution: MMM and incrementality

Both platforms now offer media mix modeling and incrementality testing, but at different points in the price ladder and with different maturity. Northbeam's MMM Plus is trained and optimized daily, not quarterly, according to Northbeam, and uses Northbeam's own attribution data as an input. It is an optional add-on on Enterprise, incrementality is optional on Professional and Enterprise, and buyer guides say MMM needs around 90 days of clean data before it stabilizes. Triple Whale bundles MTA, MMM and incrementality into a single calibrated system it calls Compass, included on Enterprise and available as an add-on otherwise, and claims MMM can be live in days with support from its data scientists. Northbeam has been doing MMM for DTC brands longer and its models are more thoroughly documented. Triple Whale's advantage is having the three measurement layers, the BI layer and the AI in one contract.

AI and automation

This is the sharpest difference. Triple Whale's Moby is an AI operator that answers questions about your live data in the app and in Slack, builds reports, and on the Automate tier runs recurring automations such as spend monitoring, anomaly alerts and leadership reports, with specialist agents for media buying, creative and conversion. Northbeam has no AI assistant of its own. What it offers instead, from Starter, is MCP access, meaning you can connect your own AI agent to Northbeam's data. For a team that already runs its own tooling that is enough. For an operator who wants the tool to do the analysis, it is not.

Platform and channel coverage

Triple Whale is Shopify-first and has the deepest integration there. WooCommerce and BigCommerce are supported but newer and more limited, and its integration catalog covers Meta, Google, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, Microsoft Ads, X and the main email and SMS tools. Northbeam covers Shopify on Starter, and integration with any e-commerce platform, including WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and custom builds, from Professional up, with direct custom integrations on Enterprise. Both connect Meta, Google, TikTok, Snapchat and Pinterest. Neither handles Amazon or retail media natively as a first-class source, and Northbeam's documentation points to custom connectors or CSV uploads for those. Littledata's July 2026 count put Triple Whale on roughly 18,000 Shopify sites and Northbeam on about 1,900, which is a fair proxy for where each is strongest.

Contracts, onboarding and support

Triple Whale includes a built-in post-purchase survey on every plan, a mobile app, unlimited users on paid plans, and a dedicated customer success manager for qualifying Automate and Enterprise accounts, which its pricing page defines as brands with GMV of $10 million or more. Northbeam gives Professional customers a dedicated Media Strategist and Enterprise customers a Customer Success Manager with a shared Slack channel and media strategy sessions, which is closer to a services relationship than a software one. Reviews of Triple Whale note slower support during peak periods, a scale problem for a company serving more than 60,000 brands. Reviews of Northbeam note a steep learning curve and say many brands end up hiring someone to own it. Neither is a criticism of the product so much as a description of who it is built for.

What the reviews say

On G2, Triple Whale holds around 4.4 to 4.5 stars from more than 350 reviews, with attribution disputes and the 2024 price increases as the recurring complaints. Northbeam holds 4.5 stars from 16 reviews, with accurate data and clear reporting praised and complexity for new users the caveat. Trustpilot is harsher on Triple Whale at around 2.8, mostly on support and integration stability. Read the small Northbeam sample as a sign of a small, sophisticated customer base rather than as a quality gap.

Which one should you choose

Use three numbers. First, monthly ad spend: below $250,000, Triple Whale's pricing and speed win and Northbeam's models will not have enough signal to justify the contract, which matches Northbeam's own guidance to move to Enterprise above that level. Second, channel count: with Meta and Google carrying most of the budget, Triple Whale's platform-aligned attribution is what your buyers already think in; with five or more channels including affiliates, influencers or TV, Northbeam's fractional credit and MMM Plus are built for the problem. Third, who owns the tool: a founder or a two-person growth team gets more from Triple Whale's dashboards and Moby; a dedicated analyst or agency gets more from Northbeam's model comparison and exports. Platform is the tiebreaker. If you are not on Shopify, Northbeam's Professional tier or Triple Whale's newer WooCommerce and BigCommerce support are both viable, and Northbeam's is more mature.

If neither fits

Both tools assume you spend enough on ads to make a monthly line item of several hundred to several thousand dollars sensible. Plenty of brands are earlier than that, or sell through Stripe and a custom storefront, or have European customers and a compliance team that wants consent enforced rather than configured. That is the gap Arktis, the tool we build, is designed for: multi-touch attribution with fbclid and gclid capture, conversions counted per UTM campaign and per ad platform from matched orders next to the Meta spend it syncs per campaign, session recordings gated behind visitor consent, and pricing from $49 a month on traffic rather than revenue or spend, with a 7-day free trial on the Growth plan. It does not do MMM or incrementality testing, and its ad platform coverage is narrower than either tool above. If your question is "which source and campaign did this order come from" rather than "how should I allocate a seven-figure media budget," it may be the cheaper answer, and you can test the model logic on our free attribution model comparison tool without installing anything. Our Triple Whale alternatives guide covers five more options in the same price band.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Northbeam better than Triple Whale?

For measurement depth, yes: Northbeam's fractional-credit attribution, model comparison and daily-trained MMM Plus are built for brands spending more than $250,000 a month across many channels with someone to own the tool. For most Shopify brands below that, Triple Whale is the better buy: cheaper, faster to set up, refreshed every 15 minutes, and with Moby AI doing analysis Northbeam leaves to you.

Which is cheaper, Triple Whale or Northbeam?

Triple Whale. It has a free plan, and its Shopify App Store listing showed Foundation at $219 a month and Automate at $749 a month on 1 October 2026. In late August 2026 its own pricing page displayed $549 and $1,349 a month at the $1 million to $2.5 million GMV tier; those figures are no longer shown. Northbeam starts from $1,500 a month on Starter and from $3,500 a month on Professional, sized by pageviews, with annual terms from Professional up.

Does Northbeam have a free plan or free trial?

No. Northbeam sells through a demo and a contract. Starter is month-to-month for early-stage Shopify brands; Professional and Enterprise are annual terms with annual or semi-annual billing. Triple Whale's Free plan includes first-click and last-click attribution, a blended channel view and a post-purchase survey.

Does Triple Whale do media mix modeling?

Yes. Triple Whale's Compass combines multi-touch attribution, MMM and incrementality testing in one calibrated system. It is included on the Enterprise tier and available as an add-on otherwise. Northbeam's MMM Plus is an optional add-on on its Enterprise tier, with daily model training according to Northbeam.

Can I use Northbeam if I am not on Shopify?

Yes, from the Professional tier, priced from $3,500 a month, which adds integration with any e-commerce platform including WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and custom builds. Starter is effectively Shopify-only. Triple Whale supports WooCommerce and BigCommerce too, but those integrations are newer and less complete than its Shopify one.

Which is more accurate?

Neither publishes an audited accuracy figure and both are modeled views, not counts. Northbeam's approach caps total credit at total sales and is easier to defend in a finance review; Triple Whale's Total Impact sits closer to what the ad platforms report and is easier for media buyers to act on. Both lose a share of conversions to cookie refusal and iOS, and both need a full customer-journey length of data before the numbers settle.
