8 FullStory Alternatives Compared for 2026

FullStory makes the best session replay in the category and will not tell you what it costs. Every paid tier is quote only, Vendr puts the median contract at $28,240 a year, and the free plan at 30,000 sessions a month is generous enough that most teams discover the price only when they have already built a workflow around the product. This guide compares eight alternatives on prices read from each vendor's own page in September 2026. One of them, Arktis, is ours, and the section says so.

The short answer: Arktis for stores, Clarity for free, LogRocket for engineers

If you run an online store, Arktis is the clear winner here. FullStory and every alternative below tell you what a visitor did; only Arktis tells you which ad brought them, what that click cost and whether the order paid it back. It captures the fbclid and gclid identifiers on landing, matches Shopify orders and Stripe customers to the visitor, reports customer acquisition cost and return on ad spend per campaign with five switchable attribution models, and plays the buyer's recording next to the number. Priced at $49, $149 and $349 a month, published, with a 7-day trial on Growth.

If you want replay for nothing, Microsoft Clarity has no session cap and no paid tier. If engineers will own it, LogRocket attaches console logs, network requests and errors to every recording.

What you give up when you leave FullStory

Be honest about this before switching. FullStory's autocapture means you can ask a question about last month that you had not thought to instrument, and get an answer. Most alternatives require you to have defined the event in advance, and the ones that autocapture do it less completely. Its search across sessions is better than anything else here, and its free tier of 30,000 sessions a month is large enough to run a small site on indefinitely.

What you get back is a number you can put in a budget, and usually a much smaller one.

The 8 best FullStory alternatives

1. Arktis, the winner for online stores

The reason to look past replay entirely is that a recording cannot tell you whether the visit was worth having. Arktis captures the ad click identifier when the visitor lands, keeps it against the visitor across sessions, matches the Shopify order or Stripe customer back to them, then divides campaign spend by attributed conversions to produce customer acquisition cost and return on ad spend, with first-touch, last-touch, linear, time-decay and position-based models so you can see how much the answer depends on the model you picked.

Session recordings of the attributed buyers sit next to those numbers, gated behind explicit consent, with capture buffered in the browser and discarded unless consent is given, and data hosted in the EU by default. Pricing is on monthly tracked visitors, which is the meter least likely to surprise you: $49 for 50,000, $149 for 250,000 with recordings and custom models, $349 for unlimited with API access and raw export, and a 7-day trial on Growth.

Where it does not fit: it is not a research suite. No survey builder, no autocapture archaeology, no dedicated heatmap editor. A UX team whose whole job is page-level usability should stay with FullStory or Contentsquare.

2. Microsoft Clarity, the free replacement

Clarity gives away session recordings, heatmaps and rage-click and dead-click detection with no volume cap and no paid tier, keeping recordings for 30 days, with favourited recordings and click data kept nine months. Capterra rates it 4.8 out of 5. It does not match FullStory's search or analysis depth and it never will, but for teams that check recordings occasionally rather than daily, it covers the actual use case for nothing. The consideration is that the data sits with Microsoft under Microsoft's terms.

3. Contentsquare, the closest thing to a like-for-like

Contentsquare, which now includes Hotjar, is the alternative most likely to satisfy a UX team: heatmaps, replay and on-site surveys together, with a free tier of 200,000 sessions a month, with replays capped at 5 percent of sessions up to 10,000 and paid plans from $49. That is the most generous free allowance among the paid tools here, though Microsoft Clarity, which is free outright, goes further. The product direction points toward an enterprise experience platform, which is a reason some small teams keep looking.

4. LogRocket, replay for people who write the fix

LogRocket records the session alongside console output, network requests and errors, so what arrives on an engineer's desk is reproducible rather than described. It adds heatmaps, funnels and path analysis. Pricing runs through a calculator starting at $176 a month for 25,000 sessions, with no free tier and a 14-day trial. Retention is explicitly a priced variable and is not published, so pin it down in writing before you sign. Capterra rates it 4.9 out of 5 across 28 reviews.

5. Mouseflow, the cheapest serious option

A permanent free tier of 500 sessions a month, then 25 euro a month on annual billing for 5,000 sessions, 109 euro for 25,000 and 319 euro for 100,000, with unlimited users on every plan and a 14-day trial. Retention runs from one month on the free plan to twelve on Premium. Friction scoring, which ranks recordings by how badly the session went, is the feature that saves the most time. Mouseflow shows the same numerals in euro to European visitors and in dollars everywhere else. Capterra rates it 4.7 out of 5 across 122 reviews.

6. Lucky Orange, replay with a conversation attached

Dynamic heatmaps, replay, funnels, unlimited surveys and live chat in one tool. No free plan on the current pricing page, a 7-day trial, then $32 a month on annual billing for 3,500 sessions, $72 for 10,000 and $199 for 50,000 and up. Base data storage starts at 60 days with 90, 180 and 365-day upgrades sold separately, which is the number to check against how far back your analysis reaches. Capterra rates it 4.7 out of 5 across 267 reviews.

7. PostHog, if replay should live next to the product data

PostHog includes 5,000 recordings a month free and meters replay separately from events, feature flags and surveys, charging $0.000198 per identified event and $0.00005 per anonymous one above the free million. It is open source and self-hostable, which helps if you have a hard data residency rule, though PostHog treats self-hosted deployments as officially unsupported and keeps paid features on Cloud. It expects technical fluency, and four meters are four ways to be surprised.

8. Crazy Egg, if heatmaps matter more than replay

Crazy Egg leads with heatmaps and scrollmaps and attaches recordings: 50 a month on Starter at $29, billed annually, 1,000 on Plus at $99 and 5,000 on Pro at $249. All plans are annual only, with no monthly option, and it meters pageviews rather than sessions. Recordings are kept six months on Starter and two years above. Unlimited domains and team members on every plan, 30-day trial.

Two names to cross off your shortlist

Smartlook is shutting down. It has joined Cisco, and the transition notice sets end of sale at 31 May 2026, no renewals after 31 August 2026, support ending 31 August 2027 and decommissioning on 30 September 2027 with remaining customer data deleted. Existing customers are pointed at Digital Experience Analytics in Splunk Observability Cloud, and subscriptions do not transfer automatically.

VWO no longer publishes pricing. It has merged with AB Tasty into the Wingify Platform, vwo.com redirects to wingify.com, and no tier publishes a price; every tier routes to a demo or a trial signup. Directory listings still quote a monthly figure; the vendor's own page contradicts them.

How to choose

Decide who watches the recordings, then decide what you will do with what you see. Engineers point to LogRocket or PostHog. Researchers point to Contentsquare or back to FullStory. A small team with no budget points to Clarity or Mouseflow. And if the recording is only useful when you know what the visitor cost to acquire, the tool you want is not a replay tool at all.

Arktis is ours, so weigh this accordingly. To see attribution with recordings on your own traffic, start the 7-day Growth trial. The tiers are on the pricing page, FullStory pricing covers what the company will and will not publish, and session replay tools compares ten options on retention and consent.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does FullStory cost?

FullStory does not publish a price on any paid tier. The free plan covers 30,000 sessions a month, and everything above it is quoted. Third-party Vendr puts the median contract at $28,240 a year. Sessions and server-side events are metered separately, and retention varies by plan, so both belong in any quote you receive.

What is the closest alternative to FullStory?

Contentsquare, which now includes Hotjar, is the closest on features for a UX team and publishes a $49 entry price with a free tier of 200,000 sessions a month, with replays capped at 5 percent of sessions up to 10,000. LogRocket is closer for engineering teams because it attaches console, network and error data to every recording. Neither matches FullStory's autocapture search depth.

Is there a free FullStory alternative?

Microsoft Clarity is free with no session cap and no paid tier, keeping recordings for 30 days, with favourited recordings and click data kept nine months. Contentsquare's free tier of 200,000 sessions a month, with replays capped at 5 percent up to 10,000, and Mouseflow's permanent 500 sessions a month are the strongest free options that come with an upgrade path. FullStory's own free plan at 30,000 sessions is also a real option for small sites.

Which replay tool connects recordings to ad spend?

None of the replay tools do, because none of them ingest advertising spend. That is a different category. Arktis captures the ad click identifiers, matches orders back to campaigns, computes customer acquisition cost and return on ad spend across five attribution models, and plays the attributed buyer's recording next to the number, from $49 a month with a 7-day trial on Growth.

Is Smartlook still worth evaluating?

No. Smartlook has joined Cisco and is being wound down: end of sale 31 May 2026, no renewals after 31 August 2026, support ending 31 August 2027, and decommissioning on 30 September 2027 with remaining customer data deleted. Existing customers are directed to Digital Experience Analytics in Splunk Observability Cloud, and subscriptions do not transfer automatically.
