Shopify Black Friday 2026: Settings, Tools and Reports

Shopify Black Friday preparation in 2026 is less about finding new apps than about using what Shopify changed this autumn: scheduled sales in Rollouts, new limits on stacked discounts, a checkout that looks different, and a session count that no longer matches last year's. Black Friday falls on 27 November and Cyber Monday on 30 November. This guide covers the settings to check before the weekend, the reports to read afterwards and what each cannot tell you.

The short answer: run the sale with Shopify's own tools, and use Arktis to see which campaigns produced the orders

For Shopify Black Friday, build the sale as a scheduled Event in Rollouts, available on every plan from Basic up, which publishes your theme, discount and catalogue changes for a set period and then rolls them back. Give each sale discount its own end date too, and check your discounts against Shopify's limits of 25 active automatic discounts and five product or order codes plus one shipping code per order. Watch Live View on the day, and afterwards compare orders and sales with last year rather than sessions or conversion rate, because Shopify changed how it measures sessions between 21 and 23 September 2026.

For seeing which campaigns produced the weekend's orders, Arktis is the clear winner for a Shopify store. It captures ad click identifiers and UTM parameters on landing, matches Shopify orders back to a visit and, where that visit carried an ad click identifier, to the ad platform, and counts conversions per UTM campaign and per ad platform next to the Meta spend it syncs each day. Plans are $49, $149 and $349 a month, with a 7-day free trial on Growth, and because new orders arrive only from the day a store connects, connecting before Thanksgiving puts the whole weekend in the data.

Key takeaways

Rollouts is the main new tool for this year's sale: with discounts added on 2 October and catalogs on 23 October, a whole Black Friday change set can go live and roll back on a schedule. Discount stacking has hard limits, and two percentage order codes for 10 and 20 percent give 30 percent off, not 28. Live View is for watching the day, not judging it. Session-based metrics changed in September, so a year-on-year conversion rate is not like for like, and channel reports can take up to 24 hours to update.

Black Friday 2026 dates and what Shopify has said

Thanksgiving is on Thursday 26 November 2026, Black Friday on Friday 27 November, Small Business Saturday on 28 November and Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November. For scale, Shopify reported on 2 December 2025 that its merchants made $14.6 billion in sales over the 2025 Black Friday Cyber Monday weekend, up 27 percent on 2024, with a peak of $5.1 million a minute at 12:01pm EST on Black Friday. Shopify notes that the figures are approximate and unaudited.

Shopify has run a public live globe of its sales during the weekend in past years. On 26 October 2026, bfcm.shopify.com still redirected to the 2025 edition and we found no announcement of a 2026 version; for your own store, the equivalent is Live View.

Schedule the sale with Rollouts

A rollout is a scheduled set of changes to your theme, checkout and accounts configuration, discounts and catalogs, managed under Markets and Rollouts. Rollouts are available on the Basic plan or higher; Experiments need Grow or higher.

A Launch applies its changes permanently, an Experiment tests them against your current store, and an Event publishes them for a set period and rolls them back when it ends, the natural fit for a sale. Shopify added discounts to Rollouts on 2 October 2026, so a sale can switch on up to 250 discounts at the same moment as a sale theme, and catalogs on 23 October, so prices and product availability per market can switch too.

A discount keeps its own active dates alongside the rollout, so a sale discount with no end date stays live after the Event ends unless you set one; catalogue edits made while the rollout runs also stay in place, and theme and checkout changes apply only to your online store. While a catalogue change is in an Experiment or reaches less than 100 percent of visitors, your online store can show different prices from Google and other channels, and product ads, feeds and third-party apps might not show the same offer. When an Event ends, Shopify POS and product feeds return to current prices on their next sync. For the sale itself, publish catalogue changes to 100 percent of visitors.

Discount settings that break on the day

Shopify's combining discounts page sets the limits. You can have at most 25 active automatic discounts, including discounts created by apps, and customers can use at most five product or order discount codes and one shipping code on the same order. Multiple discounts apply only when the setting on each discount allows the combination.

Product discounts apply first, order discounts to the revised subtotal, and shipping discounts last. Two percentage order discounts are both calculated on the original subtotal: Shopify's own example is a $100 order with 10 percent and 20 percent codes, which totals $70, or 30 percent off. If you meant the second code to apply on top of the first, set the values accordingly.

Two more limits catch stores out: discount combinations are not available for checkouts on Facebook, Instagram, Google or other external platforms, and several product discounts on the same line item combine only on Shopify Plus. Test every combination by entering codes at checkout and stopping before payment, as Shopify suggests.

Checkout, links and tracking changes this autumn

On 22 October checkout began showing payment methods in a tiled layout when they meet certain display criteria, including offering four or fewer methods. On 20 October your online store began asking customers to confirm before following a link to a website outside the store; Shopify updated this on 23 October so that it now blocks only sites it has identified as malicious and asks for confirmation on suspicious ones, and domains connected to your store do not trigger it. If your sale links to an external site you own but have not connected, test it.

On tracking, Shopify's developer documentation says apps cannot create or update script tags after 1 October 2026, and that script tags will stop running on storefronts on 1 March 2027, with web pixels as the replacement for analytics. Tracking that still uses a script tag on storefront pages runs this Black Friday but can no longer be edited, and script tags already stopped running on the Order status page on 28 August 2025 for Plus stores and on 26 August 2026 for all other stores. See our Shopify thank you page tracking guide and the Black Friday tracking checklist.

If you expect a flash sale rush

Shopify's flash sale guidance applies only when you expect tens of thousands of customers to start a checkout within a few minutes; its own example of five times the usual visitors and ten times the usual orders over 24 hours needs no special preparation. If you do expect a rush, prepare weeks ahead: separate preview products rather than hidden Add to cart buttons, manual payment capture to avoid card fees on oversold or cancelled orders, custom flat shipping rates instead of shipping apps and carrier-calculated rates, deactivating external payment options that can lead to overselling, and private mode as an emergency switch that stops new checkouts while letting customers already at checkout finish.

Orders that never visit your store

Shopify's agentic storefronts are active by default for eligible stores. ChatGPT sends shoppers to your own checkout, but for Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Meta surfaces such as Muse, customers can buy inside the channel's Shopify-powered direct checkout if you have it activated. Those purchases happen without a visit to your store, so a tool that matches orders to site visits, Arktis included, has no visit of their own to match them to. In Arktis such an order can still match on email where the store has already identified the buyer as a visitor; if it cannot be matched, it is kept and appears under Direct on the Revenue page. Our guide to Shopify agentic storefronts explains the settings under Sales channels and Agentic.

On the day: Live View

Live View, under Analytics, shows a map or 3D globe with recent sessions as blue dots and orders as purple dots. Visitors right now counts people active in the past five minutes, total sales, sessions and orders count from midnight in your store's time zone, and Customer behaviour shows sessions with active carts, at checkout and purchased in the last ten minutes.

Use it to catch problems: a falling Purchased count against steady Checking out sessions is the signal to test checkout yourself. It does not tell you which campaign is working.

After the weekend: read orders before conversion rate

Shopify's session measurement update rolled out from 21 to 23 September 2026. Sessions now follow continued activity instead of ending at midnight UTC, some sessions without a pageview are counted, such as a shopper going straight to checkout from a cart link, and identified bot sessions are filtered out by default. Shopify says your orders, sales and customer counts are not affected, but sessions, conversion rate, add to cart rate and other session-based metrics can move, and bot classification only covers sessions from 7 October 2025. Shopify advises treating data after the update as a new baseline, so compare Black Friday 2026 with 2025 on orders, sales and customers.

For marketing, the Growth section reports sales by channel and campaign with last non-direct click as the default model, alongside last click, first click, any click and linear. Shopify says report data can take up to 24 hours to update, and that Facebook and Google campaigns appear there without cost, ROAS, CPA or click-through rate. Our guide to Shopify reports covers what each plan includes.

What Arktis adds, and where it does not fit

Arktis's tracker holds ad click identifiers and UTM parameters against the visitor across sessions, server side. Shopify orders arrive by webhook from the day the store connects and are matched to a visit on email where the store has identified the visitor, otherwise on the UTM source of a session from the previous 24 hours, which can be another visitor's session. An order counts for an ad platform only when it was matched to a visitor who arrived with that platform's click identifier, and orders that cannot be matched are kept and appear under Direct on the Revenue page, which shows paid orders net of refunds by source, so an order on manual capture appears there only once the payment is captured. On Growth and Scale, recordings of the sessions you have captured can be filtered to visitors who converted and to sessions that included your sale collection page.

Arktis creates no discounts, runs no storefront A/B tests, has no checkout or heatmaps, is not an inventory tool, and sends nothing to Meta or Google. It does not import earlier orders in bulk, so connect before Thanksgiving. Visitors are identified per browser, where Shopify's reports include cross-device data. The tracker keeps identifiers in local storage from the first page view and sets cookies only after consent, so in the EU and UK it belongs in your consent setup, and recordings are uploaded only after consent.

Get the weekend into your data

To count Black Friday conversions per UTM campaign and ad platform against your Shopify orders, start the 7-day Growth trial or compare plans on the pricing page. Plan the dates with Cyber Week 2026, tag every campaign with the UTM builder, and see Black Friday email for the sends that go with the sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Black Friday 2026 for Shopify stores?

Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November, the day after Thanksgiving on 26 November, and Cyber Monday is 30 November. Shopify reported $14.6 billion in merchant sales over the 2025 Black Friday Cyber Monday weekend, up 27 percent on 2024. On 26 October 2026 Shopify had not announced a 2026 version of its public live globe.

How do I schedule a Black Friday sale on Shopify?

Use Rollouts, under Markets in the Shopify admin, which is available on the Basic plan or higher. Create an Event, which publishes theme, checkout, discount and catalogue changes for a set period and rolls them back when it ends, though a discount's own active dates still apply, so give each sale discount an end date. Shopify added discounts to Rollouts on 2 October 2026 and catalogs on 23 October 2026.

How many discounts can a Shopify order combine?

Shopify allows at most 25 active automatic discounts, including app discounts, and customers can use up to five product or order discount codes and one shipping discount code on the same order. Each discount must allow the combination in its settings. Percentage order discounts are each calculated on the original subtotal, so 10 and 20 percent codes give 30 percent off.

Why is my Shopify conversion rate different from last Black Friday?

Shopify changed how it measures sessions between 21 and 23 September 2026: sessions now follow continued activity rather than ending at midnight UTC, some sessions without a pageview count, and identified bots are filtered out by default. Orders, sales and customer counts are not affected, but conversion rate can move. Shopify advises treating data after the update as a new baseline, so compare orders and sales year on year instead.

How can a Shopify store see which campaigns drove Black Friday orders?

Shopify's Growth reports show sales by channel and campaign, using last non-direct click by default, and can take up to 24 hours to update. For a click-based count, Arktis is the clear winner: it matches Shopify orders back to a visit and, where that visit carried an ad click identifier, to the ad platform, and counts conversions per UTM campaign and per ad platform. Plans cost $49, $149 or $349 a month, with a 7-day free trial on Growth.
